As a tribute to the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and a key guidance project of the State Administration of Radio and Television, the TV series "Our Rivers and Mountains" comprehensively connects the national anti-Japanese war and the world anti-fascist war. With the fall of Shandong in 1937 as the historical background, it tells the story of young party member Zhuang Saifeng (played by Wang Lei) who, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, went deep into the Yimeng Mountain area to develop grassroots armed forces, experienced numerous tests, opened up, built and expanded the anti-Japanese base area, and finally smashed the Japanese army's mopping-up plan and ushered in the victory of the War of Resistance. It pioneered the use of "Guocheng" as a small incision to connect the national anti-Japanese epic under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Furthermore, the series breaks away from the grand narratives of traditional war dramas. Its extensive use of ultra-high-definition long takes allows viewers to experience the historical presence and immerse themselves in the war. Furthermore, it resonates deeply with young minds with the texture of a life-like drama: the characters are genuine, the story is intimate, and the emotions are intense. Small characters with flesh-and-blood personalities like Zhuang Saifeng, Liu Zhumei, Wang Yu, and Zhang Zhiping imbue the history of the War of Resistance with a youthful air and the sense of responsibility of young people. "Our Mountains and Rivers" allows contemporary young people to see both the mountains and themselves in this series.
Director Mao Weining won the Best Director Award at the 21st Shanghai TV Festival for his work on "Ordinary World." His other representative works include "Raging Fire," "Forged in Steel," "Meritorious Service," "Our Translator," and "The Abyss."
During this year's Shanghai TV Festival, director Mao Weining stated in an interview that "Our Rivers and Mountains" is a landmark film, the first to capture the grand theme of "soldiers and civilians are the foundation of victory." It is also the first film to comprehensively depict the Chinese Communist Party's pivotal role in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression from the perspective of the battlefield behind enemy lines. In "Our Rivers and Mountains," he employed "three truths"—historical truth, the truth of the war, and the truth of ordinary people's lives—to recreate the era, fully recreating the tortuous course of the War of Resistance and the heartfelt bond between the military and civilians.
