On July 19, the "Eternal Prosperity: A Special Exhibition of Wong Kar-wai's Works" (Suzhou Station), co-organized by the Jiangnan Branch of the China Film Archive and Zedong Film Co., Ltd., opened at the Jiangnan Branch of the China Film Archive.
This special exhibition uses "Flowers: Long Time No See" as the opening film, showing the first three episodes of "Flowers" in 4K version and the short film "Long Time No See" for the first anniversary of "Flowers". Tang Yan, who plays "Miss Wang" in the play, walked into "Flowers: Long Time No See" with the audience in front of the screen, and had a conversation with Sha Dan, the program planner of the China Film Archive after the screening. Tang Yan sincerely shared the behind-the-scenes stories of participating in the creation of "Flowers" and her profound understanding of the images, which deeply moved the fans present.
Po and Xiao Wang stage a "reunion of the century": a moment is eternal
"This is also the first time I see Miss Wang on the big screen in a cinema. I suddenly had a feeling of 'homecoming'. I was very excited while watching it. "Fang Hua" is like many movies, and it also has infinite possibilities. So in my wish, I have always hoped to have the opportunity to see Miss Wang in the cinema." Tang Yan, who watched the cinema version of "Fang Hua" with the audience, was very emotional.
Wong Kar-wai's lighting and shadow are extremely sophisticated. On the big screen, the Yellow River Road in Shanghai in the 1990s appears even more prosperous. The characters' every move, every frown and smile, just like Wong Kar-wai's previous films, are fascinating.
Tang Yan recalled her initial encounter with "Little Wang" on the spot, "There was an inexplicable sense of adaptation", because she was a "Shanghai girl" like the character, Tang Yan "was not nervous at all" when she received the invitation for the role, and the first time she met Wong Kar-wai, "I saw the legendary 'sunglasses', he smiled at me with his white teeth, and the first sentence he said in Shanghainese was 'I am also from Shanghai'", which made Tang Yan more relaxed, "There was a sense of intimacy between fellow villagers."

Tang Yan and Sha Dan talk after the screening
After taking on the role of Miss Wang, Tang Yan did not take on other roles for three years. Regarding this choice, Tang Yan said that she needed "a completely immersive experience. I am Xiao Wang, swimming in Miss Wang's world. All I could think about was the order for jeans from Walmart, and I was still calculating the quote from the Shenzhen factory. Suddenly someone came over and pushed me, pulled me out and said, 'The God Realm needs you to make three vows.' That would make me feel very split." Tang Yan said, "At that time, I was not prepared to split myself, nor did I plan to share my love for Miss Wang with another person."

In addition to the first three episodes of the drama version, the Easter egg "Long Time No See" of "Fang Hua" was also screened on the same day. Movie fans saw the "long-lost reunion" of the New Year of 2000 in the cinema. A Bao and Xiao Wang unexpectedly reunited because of the premiere of "In the Mood for Love" at the Grandview Cinema. The two of them looked at each other briefly, traveling through time, and seemed to echo the regrets of Zhou Muyun and Su Lizhen on the big screen. The infatuated men and women in Wong Kar-wai's universe, in different years and time, reincarnated again and again, all make people aftertaste.
Tang Yan said that she "cried a lot" when filming the reunion scene, and even now, when she sees this scene, she still feels strong emotions. "It was a mixture of emotions after a long separation, mixed with many emotions. But everything has a shelf life, just the length of time is different. I think Miss Wang's feelings for Abao should be, 'Lucky to have you here, it's worth the first meeting', what happened, the moment is eternal."
Tang Yan gave an "official" hint about the "pork ribs and rice cakes" relationship that the audience talked about so much. "Think about it carefully. In the drama, Xiao Wang and A Bao did appear in the same pork ribs and rice cakes shop. Pork ribs and rice cakes also have a special and wonderful connection between them, but they never seem to really sit together to eat pork ribs and rice cakes. In fact, the only time they ate pork ribs and rice cakes was the night when Miss Wang decided to resign at the door of the Economic Development Office. So the taste of pork ribs and rice cakes is bitter for Miss Wang."

Miss Wang is her own "dock"
It has been a long time since the filming of "Flowers" ended, but Tang Yan still feels that the role of "Hongkou Xiao Wang" remains in her. "I like the phrase 'I am my own dock' the most, which gives me great strength. In the past four or five years, Miss Wang has become part of my life. She has had a great influence on me and cured my social anxiety," Tang Yan said.
At the event, Tang Yan revealed that she is now "busy reading scripts, busy working, busy exercising, and there should be new works meeting the audience this year."

Stills from "Flower City", Tang Yan plays Miss Wang
"Flower Road 13" shuttles through the streets of Suzhou, and the Jiangnan branch creates the "Wong Kar-wai Film Universe"
This special exhibition originated from the permanent collection of the China Film Archive, which was recently collected from Zedong Film Co., Ltd. - the huge woodblock watermark work "Clouds Rising and Flowers Blooming: Blue Clouds" with great artistic value, and the film copies of five classic works, "Fallen Angels", "Happy Together", "In the Mood for Love", "Eros - Hands" and "Blueberry Nights". Sha Dan, the curator of the China Film Archive, said that including the archive's previous collections, now "all the films directed by Wang during the Zedong period are collected, which is a 'national treasure' preservation."
After "Fanghua", films such as "As Tears Go By", "Fallen Angels", "2046", "Days of Being Wild" and "The Hand of Eros" will also be screened to the public at the Jiangnan Branch of the China Film Archive in the next two weeks.

The film festival is full of Wong Kar-wai elements
In order to create an extremely immersive "Wong Kar-wai's film universe", the third floor of the Jiangnan branch has specially created a special exhibition space. The huge character flip wall freezes the unforgettable screen style; the semi-transparent gauze curtain stills seem to be hazy across time, filled with a hazy and dreamy atmosphere; the scene restoration of the "Pork Ribs and Rice Cake Shop" instantly awakens the fireworks of the market flowing in the alleys in the play; the classic props display is matched with moving lines, and the light and shadow flow, turning into a token connecting the audience with the screen memory. The four exhibition areas are linked, instantly bringing the audience into the light and shadow world of director Wong Kar-wai full of texture and sentiment.

"Flower" themed bus
In addition, the event also successfully attracted fans from the Yangtze River Delta region through the screening of classic films such as "As Tears Go By" and "2046", immersive theme exhibitions, and the creative "Flower Route 13" bus planning, which also sparked heated discussions among local citizens and major social media. On the opening day, Tang Yan also boarded the bus with great interest to check in.
