At the 10th "China Space Day" forum held on April 23, Zhang Jinting, director of the Cultural Communication Center of the China Foreign Language Bureau, announced that the "Youxi" satellite is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2025. At the same time, the production of the documentary film "China Has Drama: Sky Curtain Project" was officially launched.
The "Youxi" satellite carries a unique cultural mission. It is named after the cultural IP "China Has Drama" jointly created by the Cultural Communication Center of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and the China Dramatists Association. This IP crosses the boundaries and integrates drama and space elements. It aims to promote the creative transformation and global dissemination of Chinese drama and excellent Chinese culture through innovative forms. Since the "China Has Drama" project was officially launched at the "Chinese Culture International Communication Forum" on December 10, 2024, it has received widespread attention from all walks of life.

At the forum, Director Zhang Jinting also introduced that the Youxihao satellite uses a space display screen and a selfie camera as its main payload, and can connect the space and the ground through "a playback screen and a camera" to achieve the continuous broadcast and real-time transmission of excellent Chinese cultural works in the vast space. At present, the Youxihao satellite has entered the ground joint test stage and has received strong support from the China Dramatists Association, the National Space Administration News and Publicity Center, the Eighth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Commercial Rocket Company.
In order to fully promote the cultural IP of "China Has Drama", the Cultural Communication Center of China Foreign Language Bureau announced at the forum that it authorized Elephant Partner Pictures, a company in the entire Chinese film industry chain, to join hands with well-known institutions such as Popular Film to officially launch the production of the theater documentary film "China Has Drama: Sky Curtain Project". The main creative team will embark on an art search journey across China, deeply visit the inheritors and enthusiasts of traditional drama among young people in various places, collect artistic elements, and create an innovative video work. It is worth mentioning that with the launch of the "Youxihao" satellite, the film will also be broadcast in space simultaneously, presenting a unique "sky curtain" spectacle in the vast universe.
"China Has Drama: Sky Curtain Project" will take "traditional culture has drama, contemporary technology has drama, and young people have drama" as the core concept, and construct a cultural integration field that transcends time and space and artistic forms - it will not only vividly display the stage aesthetics and humanistic heritage of traditional Chinese drama and opera, but also create new works with innovative techniques, conveying to the world the spiritual character of Chinese civilization's adherence to the truth and innovation, and realizing the "breakthrough" of traditional art.
