Amid anticipation and controversy, luxury brands are "going to the streets" one after another

As an important carrier of attitude and personality expression, street fashion and sports fashion have increasingly become the darling of luxury brands. Can this cross-border alliance develop into a new luxury fashion, or will it accelerate the demise of traditional luxury? Disputes have always existed, and cooperation has continued to deepen. Recently, Balenciaga became popular on social platforms because of a street-style "ugly shoe" Paris Sneaker. "Street fashion luxury brand" has always been one of the inherent attributes of Balenciaga.
On May 22, Balenciaga's Spring 23 Collection was launched on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Models on the runway wrapped their bodies in mysterious latex bodysuits, covered in Spring 23 collections, interpreting the new Garde-Robe collections, evening collections and Balenciaga/Adidas ready-to-wear. This time, the collaboration series between Balenciaga and adidas re-deconstructs and reshapes sportswear elements with the creative techniques that Balenciaga is good at. After the more elegant style of the first two series, Balenciaga presents the consistent pursuit of the brand in the field of street sports style with 23 sets of joint series.
As a fashion style, "luxury streetwear" appeared circa 2010. Under the influence of teenagers' aesthetics, many high-end fashions have begun to integrate street sports elements. Then the fashion heat quickly subsided and dissipated. Around 2018, "luxury streetwear" came to life again.
As Louis Vuitton's Menswear Artistic Director from 2018 to 2021, Virgil Abloh grew up inspired by the streetwear community and hip-hop. He hopes to break down the boundaries between the two fields and present the historical influence of black subculture on the mainstream fashion industry. From May 21st to 31st, Louis Vuitton presented special installations at Chengdu IFS, Shenzhen Bay Mixc City, Hangzhou Hubin Yintai in77, and exhibited the Louis Vuitton and Nike joint "Air Force 1" designed by Virgil Abloh in a large glass box. "Sneakers exhibition theme related to the earth statue. Users can also further explore the details of cooperative shoes and craftsmanship through the online applet, and experience the immersive tree house exhibition. Virgil Abloh passed away on November 28, 2021. Before his death, he completed the creation of the 2022 spring and summer menswear series, including the joint sneaker series. This exhibition is a spatial experience based on Virgil Abloh's dreamy artistic expression. Virgil constantly questions the definition of "high and low", a discourse that manifests itself in every piece he creates for Louis Vuitton.
In addition to attitude expressions, old fashion houses also need to rely on young designers to renew their brand culture, so as to better communicate in the intergenerational market. "I was just born that year, when GIANFRANCO FERRÉ was the artistic director of Dior and left a strong mark in the history of the brand. I was very interested in this period and did not conspire with Kim Jones. As the guest designer of Dior’s 2023 spring menswear limited series, ELI RUSSELL LINNETZ proposed the concept of “MAXIMALISM” for this series, combining perfectionism with innocence. The order of order is integrated. "From this series of works, we can see the intersection and collision of times and history, and the leap and confrontation between generations."
This collection not only shows the designer's personal style, but also integrates the works of CHRISTIAN DIOR and his successors. Born and raised in Venice, California, Linz incorporates local history and culture into his clothing designs. On-trend culture breathes life into the house's iconic patterns, such as satin cannage, quilted leather skateboard sneakers, and crystal-embellished trousers. Luxury streetwear symbolizes a shift in fashion culture. For a long time, luxury brands have created multiple lasting values; while high street trends pay more attention to practicality, pursue the efficiency of "see now, buy now", and reflect part of the spiritual world of young people. At present, trendy culture has become the flow code of the fashion industry, but luxury streetwear does not mean a simple imitation of those popular elements, but to develop a new luxury related to culture in the conflict and dialogue.
