Kunqu Opera artist Hua Wenyi dies at 81

Well-known Kunqu opera artist Hua Wenyi died at 7:00 this morning Beijing time at the age of 81. Hua Wenyi, born in 1941, is a famous Kunqu Opera actor. Hua Wenyi is the first graduate of Shanghai Opera School. She has been taught by Zhu Chuanming and other "biography" generation artists and famous teachers such as Yu Zhenfei and Yan Huizhu since she was a child. In the 1960s, Hua Wenyi performed the Kunqu Opera "The Legend of the White Snake", which was very successful and was called "Little Mei Lanfang". Hua Wenyi's "A Dream in the Garden" is also very exciting.
Hua Wenyi has a beautiful appearance and a gorgeous voice. She pursues a natural style and integrates the program into her performances without leaving any traces. In "Horse on the Wall", together with her former "golden partner" Yue Meiti, she reproduced the classic images of art masters Yu Zhenfei and Yan Huizhu.
In 1988, Bai Xianyong returned to the mainland to give lectures for the first time, and he saw the full version of "The Palace of Longevity" starring Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe artists Hua Wenyi and Cai Zhengren again in Shanghai. He said countless times with emotion: "There is no other in Kunqu Opera, and there is a word for 'beauty'. The beauty of words, dance, music, and human feelings is the concentrated expression of Chinese aesthetic ideals, the product of highly developed Chinese classical culture, and a world-class art, and we must all cherish it.”
