During this Shanghai International Film Festival, the film "No More Backing Down" held a release conference and officially announced that it will be released nationwide on August 8, 2025.
The film is directed and written by Qi Xing, a Golden Rooster Award-winning director, and stars Pan Binlong, Hou Jiayin, Zuo Xiaoqing, Xu Jia, Zhao Qi, and Li Han Bangyan. Pan Binlong and Zuo Xiaoqing collaborated on the big screen for the first time, playing a new type of Chinese parents who use their love and wisdom to ultimately help their children move forward.
The movie "No More Backing Down" held a release conference
At the release conference, a unique "family dinner" event was held with the theme of "Tear off the old labels, and father's love will appear again", inviting the main creators to share their warm memories related to family.
In the film, Pan Binlong plays Liu Zhonghua, a father who is determined to find a way out for his children. He overcomes numerous difficulties to discover and tap into the athletic talent of his youngest daughter Liu Xingyu (played by Hou Jiayin). He persists for more than ten years to cure his daughter's lameness and encourages her to bravely embark on the path of ice hockey.
Director Qi Xing said that "No More Backing Down" uses women's ice hockey, a sport that fully reflects the "bloodiness" of women, as a carrier. By portraying a great father who silently contributes, it tells the audience a touching family story of refusing to retreat and lie down, and bravely pursuing dreams.
Pan Binlong
Breaking through the previous comedy image, the lead actor Pan Binlong created for the first time on the big screen a father who put aside his dignity and tried his best to support his daughter. He said frankly: "The image of Liu Zhonghua, the father I played this time, is very different from the past. In order for his daughter to have a better life, he can break through all worldly prejudices and use his wisdom and spirit of not retreating to break all impossibilities. The father in the film is so similar to the ordinary uncles and aunts around me when I was a child. Love is the greatest and most abundant resource and power they have. I hope that what the audience sees in the movie this time is not Pan Binlong, but the image of a father and uncle that they are really familiar with."
Zuo Xiaoqing
Zuo Xiaoqing, who plays a couple with Pan Binlong for the first time, plays a Northeastern mother with a bit of a hot temper. Because she loves her daughter, she often "fights" with Pan Binlong.
Zuo Xiaoqing fondly recalled the story of how she became an actress because of her father. She said that she was influenced by her father since she was a child and developed a strong interest in movies: "My father likes movies very much and subscribes to the magazine "Popular Movies". He always said that he hopes I can be on the cover of "Popular Movies" one day." Coincidentally, the first magazine cover that Zuo Xiaoqing shot while studying at the Film Academy was "Popular Movies". Since then, her father has carefully saved every report about her in newspapers and magazines. "These bits and pieces are a huge encouragement to me."
