    Jia Zhangke's "A Gentleman's Generation" and Guan Hu's "Dog Race" compete at Cannes Film Festival

    On April 11, the official list of shortlisted films for the 77th Cannes Film Festival was announced. Jia Zhangke's new film "A Generation of Gentlemen" was shortlisted for the main competition unit. This is also the sixth time that Jia Zhangke has been shortlisted for the main competition unit of Cannes.

    The film is directed by Jia Zhangke, co-written by Jia Zhangke and Wan Jiahuan, produced by Naozo Ichiyama and Liang Jiayan, and starring Zhao Tao.

    The story runs from 2001 to 2022, with the breakups and reunions of Qiaoqiao and Guo Bin, a couple from a small town in northern China, as the main line. It tells the life stories of them and the various grassroots people around them in the first 20 years of the new century, portraying the indomitable enterprising spirit of the next generation against the background of social change, and depicting the lives of a generation.

    This is the sixth time that Jia Zhangke's work has been shortlisted for the main competition unit of Cannes, following "A Touch of Sin", "Twenty-four City", "A Touch of Sin", "Mountains May Depart" and "Ash Is Purest White". Previously, "A Touch of Sin" won the Best Screenplay Award.
