Interview|Actor Chen Duling: Watching the villain "go crazy" is quite relaxing

Recently, the costume drama "Long Moon Embers" was broadcast, and Chen Duling, who played the "villain", was quite out of the circle. For many viewers, she is still the innocent and weak "little ear" in "The Left Ear". Even with the passage of time, she always feels that the pure and kind female role is most suitable for her. Unexpectedly, in "Long Moon Ember" this time, she played the role of the triangle alone, interpreting three different villains Ye Bingshang, Tian Huan, and sister-in-law.

"After "Left Ear", you will find that most of my characters are youthful and modern dramas." Chen Duling said frankly, "In the scripts found in the same period, this ("Long Moon Ember") is the only one. It makes me feel very different, and the role is also the most contrasting with my previous roles."

For the role of Ye Bingshang, the setting of "face like Guanyin, heart like snake and scorpion" is very attractive to Chen Duling. She thinks this is a challenge, "I want to try this kind of complicated role." The role of love, as a villain, there are not enough scenes in the play that can focus on showing her history and the relationship between the characters. Moreover, Chen Duling thinks that most of his previous works are based on realistic themes. For the villain in "Long Moon Ember", it was difficult to understand at first: "There is too much contrast between what she does before and after."

Therefore, during the filming period, Chen Duling asked the screenwriter many times about the ins and outs of this character, as well as the original intention of the screenwriter: "The screenwriter teacher hopes that this character can carry more complex human nature. I also hope that I can make the most of the complex side. Dig out as much as possible. The more difficult a character is to empathize with, the more it is necessary to find psychological support through some performance details to make the character more grounded." Chen Duling said: "Pure evil is rare, I need Find the root of her evil. This play is a big challenge for me, in fact, I have to understand her character's motives, find out logically how to express this character to support her behavior, and let the audience understand the process of her blackening. "

    Chen Duling as Ye Bingshang

In Chen Duling's analysis, Ye Bingshang, as a concubine daughter in a large feudal family, was born inferior due to the relationship between the concubine and concubine in the feudal society, was squeezed out, and was in a bad situation. However, her efforts to learn the rules and female workers cannot change her status, and she cannot go out to make a living. She can only hope that marriage will change her destiny. In Chen Duling's view, this character is actually very sad. "Ancient women are not like modern women. They have so many choices of ways out. They can only rely on their families or find a way out through marriage." Ye Bingshang has a narrow vision and limited choices. She is confined to the back house, which has her limitations. Her blackening was a wrong step.

    Chen Duling as Tianhuan

Tian Huan in the second life was born noble, killed all directions, and was an "evil god" who treated life like an ant. This relatively extreme villain has won the favor of many audiences. Chen Duling also observed this point, she believes that this kind of goodwill comes from the internal friction of contemporary people. "I think nowadays, many people have serious internal conflicts. But Tianhuan, a character, has no internal conflicts, only external conflicts, and everyone finds it interesting. Everyone is not saying that they like what the villain does, but watching the virtual fairy world. The villain in the film is 'going crazy', and everyone feels quite relieved."

Evil girl Tianhuan became popular on the Internet

Chen Duling said, "I am a person with serious internal friction. When I played Tianhuan, I felt a sense of refreshment, and I could forget who I am in reality." She talked about the character creation during the filming. Even Luo Yunxi suggested to her, "He said that you really can't find anything pitiful about the role of Tianhuan, you might as well play her well, it's also a villain's charm."

Ye Bingshang's lines were praised for "being sober in the world"

The third character image, the concubine, carries the painful memory of Ye Bingshang in her previous life, has gone through vicissitudes, is open-minded, and regards the relatives around her very important. But her position is in the devil's camp. In Chen Duling's view, Ye Bingshang's badness stems from his circumstances, Tianhuan's nature, and concubine's position. The distinction between the origins of the characters brings out the different temperaments and expressions of the three characters.

Many young actors are worried that a villain image that is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people will bring recognition to acting skills, and at the same time, it will be an invitation to countless similar roles, and a certain stereotype hung on the actor himself. But Chen Duling felt that some of the senior actors she admired seemed not worried about these problems: "Those senior actors I admire a lot, no matter what role they take seriously, they will dig out the complex aspects of the role and connect with them." The point of empathy for the audience. And the more difficult it is for me to empathize with the character, the character that is in contrast to myself, the process of understanding and interpreting it will bring me a lot of growth.”

Chen Duling majored in science and engineering, not a major. "Everyone may have some inherent impressions of my performance because of some of the initial roles. In fact, I have been learning and improving myself. This time everyone can notice this. It should be because everyone was a little surprised that I can play this kind of role.”

It has been almost ten years since "Left Ear" entered the industry. Looking back at the beginning, Chen Du was inspired. The high demands placed on her by director Su Youpeng at that time have still benefited her to this day. "He has extremely high requirements for the details of character creation, and he has extremely high requirements for the actor's sense of belief." Chen Duling still remembers the other party's exhortation, "You must believe in your characters, you must let go of the burden of being an idol, and you must have true feelings put in."
