Shanghai Opera movie "Daughter of Dunhuang" scheduled for March 8

Produced by Shanghai Shanghai Theater, Dunhuang Research Institute, Shanghai Radio and Television Station, Shanghai New Culture Film Co., Ltd., directed by Teng Junjie, and starring Mao Shanyu, the live-action Shanghai opera film "Daughter of Dunhuang" is scheduled to be released nationwide on "3.8 International Women's Day".

Last year, "Daughter of Dunhuang" won the 35th China Film Golden Rooster Award for Best Opera Film, the 2022 China-US Film Festival's Best Annual Opera Film, and the Fifth Chinese Opera Film Excellent Opera Film Awards. In the exquisite fusion of Shanghai opera and film, the story of Fan Jinshi, the honorary director of the Dunhuang Academy and known as the "Daughter of Dunhuang" who has been standing in the desert for more than 50 years is artistically presented. Mao Shanyu also spent ten years working on creating and rehearsing the play, and finally produced the stage play "Daughter of Dunhuang". The film was re-adjusted and created based on the stage play, and strived to conform to the language, rhythm and camera expression of the film.

Perseverance and dedication moisten the Dunhuang desert

In the Shanghai opera movie "Daughter of Dunhuang", the Dunhuang people represented by Fan Jinshi have used generation after generation to protect the splendid Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes civilization, and combined with the digital age to develop "Digital Dunhuang", so that Dunhuang culture can be spread on the world stage . In the newly released main poster of the movie, Fan Jinshi, played by Mao Shanyu, has gray hair and a firm back. She uses a flashlight to illuminate the meditating Buddha in Cave 259 of Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. In the group portrait posters released together, Fan Jinshi, Chang Shuhong, Duan Wenjie and other seniors who have dedicated their lives to Dunhuang culture lean back against the desert, or stare at the camera with firm eyes, or look into the distance with burning eyes. The story of guardianship is slowly flowing in the Gobi desert.

Fan Jinshi grew up in Shanghai and studied at Peking University. Faced with the choice between Beijing and Shanghai, she plunged headlong into the Gobi desert in her prime, and it took half a century for her to experience wind and sand. When Fan Jinshi first entered Dunhuang, she gave Chang Shuhong three high-fives, expressing a young archaeologist's determination to guard Dunhuang wholeheartedly. In that era of inconvenient transportation, lack of water and electricity, and extremely difficult living conditions, a thin urban girl lived in an earthen house, slept on an earthen kang, ate miscellaneous grains, drank salt water, and conducted protection research in Mogao Grottoes day after day. She survived the loneliness in the Gobi desert, the nineteen years of separation between husband and wife, and the heartache of separation between mother and child, without changing her original intention. She started again at the age of 60. After serving as the director of the Dunhuang Research Institute, she faced the impact of the economic tide, withstood the pressure, and boldly conceived the construction of "Digital Dunhuang", "permanent preservation and sustainable use" of Dunhuang cultural relics, so that Dunhuang culture " "live", solved the contradiction between tourism and development, and successfully made Dunhuang art go out of the cave and go to the world.

China Central Radio and Television's "Moving China 2019 Person of the Year" column wrote in the award speech to Fan Jinshi: "Give up half your life to the vast desert. From the famous lake to the Mogao Grottoes, hold on to the fire of the predecessors and open up the road to tomorrow. Not everyone can withstand the wind and sand of half a century. A love, a hole in the painting, a cultural journey, from youth to gray hair. The place where the heart returns is Dunhuang.”

Keep Upright and Innovate to Expand the Development Space of Shanghai Opera

It took two years to polish the film "Daughter of Dunhuang". Mao Shanyu led Qian Sijian, Ling Yuegang, Wu Zhengguang and other leading actors, as well as the movie version adaptation Jiang Dongmin and the music singer Ru Jinshan. "Daughter of Dunhuang", as a live-action Shanghai opera film, strives to make Shanghai opera go out of Shanghai, go to the world, enter the hearts of the people, and rejuvenate in the new era.
